Hippie Jack’s Recycling and Litter Prevention Program

TDOTlogoResearch and experience have shown that litter is the result of individual behavior choosing to litter or being careless in the handling of waste.  And once litter is on the ground, it attracts more litter.  A clean community, by contrast, can discourage littering and improve community appearance and quality of life.  That’s why the Jammin at Hippie Jack’s Festivals are litter free events!

How can you help?

  • If you see litter pick it up.  We have lots of trash bins located throughout the festival grounds and our trash crew, though working hard, can only do so much.  We need everyone’s help.
  • Only bring aluminum cans.  As oppose to glass, which is difficult and dangerous to handle, aluminum is easy and brings in funds which helps us plant trees and keep the festival grounds beautiful year round.
  •  Only bring number 1 or 2 plastic containers.  These plastics are the most common for single-use bottled beverages, because they are inexpensive, lightweight and easy to recycle.  And remember to remove the lids or we have to.
  • Use the compost station.  Composting is the best way to recycle food scraps and we then use it to plant those trees.
  • Join our volunteer roadside cleanup crew.  Shiloh road is a magnet for litter especially during high traffic festival time.  So join our team and help us clean.
  • Spread the word.  Teach your friends, neighbors, and colleagues about composting and recycling for litter prevention.
